Undergraduate Engineering Cluster Program at
Shanghai JiaoTong University (SJTU)
The Engineering Cluster Program is a new undergraduate international program designed to combine the strengths of engineering-related fields at SJTU. Offering all major courses in English or French, the Cluster Program welcomes prospective students with an interest in engineering studies from all over the world.
The SJTU Undergraduate Engineering Cluster program in English includes:
- • The University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University (UM-SJTU) Joint Institute (JI)
- • School of Materials Science and Engineering
- • School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering
- • School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering
- • School of Mechanical Engineering
The Cluster Program covers various engineering-related disciplines such as:
- • Mechanical Engineering
- • Electrical and Computer Engineering
- • Materials Science and Engineering
- • Computer Science and Technology
- • Information Engineering
- • Automation
- • Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering
- • Power and Energy Engineering
- • And more
Cluster students will take introductory engineering courses in the first 1.5 years at the UM-SJTU Joint Institute. After meeting this requirement, Cluster students may choose to continue their studies at the UM-SJTU Joint Institute or transfer to another engineering school (in English or Chinese) to complete their bachelor’s degree.
Reminder: Although all Cluster courses are taught in English, Cluster students are required to take Chinese culture and language courses while enrolling in their respective degree programs. All Cluster students are expected to meet HSK 4 (Chinese Language Test) as the minimal Chinese language requirement for graduation. Exceptions include Cluster students enrolling in the UM-SJTU Dual Degree Program, JI-KTH 3+2 Bachelor’s Program, or other international programs.
Language Requirements:
• Chinese Language Requirements: All Cluster students are expected to meet HSK 4 (Chinese Language Test) as the minimal Chinese language requirement for graduation. Exceptions include Cluster students enrolling in the UM-SJTU Dual Degree Program, JI-KTH 3+2 Bachelor’s Program, or other international programs.
• English Language Requirements:
For non-native speakers of English, either TOEFL (iBT, JI code: 6210) or IELTS score is required.
- • TOEFL (iBT): Total score 84 or above. Mybest Scores are accepted.
- • IELTS: Overall 6.0 or above.
Exceptions: You may be exempted from providing any of these exams if your SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score is 650 or above, if both your ACT Reading and English scores are 27 or above, or if you have recently completed at least 4 years of rigorous academic study in any of the following countries: Anguilla, Antigua, Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada (except Quebec), Cayman Islands, Dominica, England, Federated, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Seychelles, Shetland Islands, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Singapore. Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States (other than Puerto Rico), US Virgin Islands, Wales. (Those in American Schools and British Schools abroad may also be exempted if at least 4 years of rigorous academic study have recently been completed and if test scores meet the above standards.)
Valid National College Entrance Exam Scores Requirements:
If you apply with either SAT (JI code: 6563) or ACT (JI code: 6983) test scores. Scores with writing test scores are preferred.
- • 2023 First-year admitted class test scores of Middle 50th percentile ranges:
- • SAT total score: 1360-1480
- • SAT Math: 750-790
- • ACT total score: 32-33
- • ACT Math: 28-35
If you apply with A-level scores, you need to apply with Math A or above. If you apply with International Baccalaureate (IB), you need to apply with Math HL 5 or above or SL 7 in Math or above. Predicted A-level or IB scores are NOT accepted.
Students with other valid national college entrance exam scores, please contact ji-intadm@sjtu.edu.cn first(e.g., Malaysia students with UEC exam scores, Kazakhstan UNT scores. France national exam scores etc).
If you don't have any exam scores mentioned above, you have an option to take the “SJTU International Undergraduate Entrance Exam” in spring 2024.
SJTU International Undergraduate Entrance Exam:
- • The “SJTU International Undergraduate Entrance Exam” includes two parts: Written Test and Oral Test.
- • Exam Application Time: February 15, 2024 ~March 1, 2024(Beijing Time, GMT+8)
- • Exam Method: Both Written and Oral tests are online.
- • Exam Time: Scheduled for March 23-24, 2024(Beijing Time, GMT+8)
