Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM), founded in 1956, a prestigious university in China, has been well-known for its leading subjects traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Chinese Materia Medica. Since its inception, BUCM has been listed under the Project 211, a project designed for prioritizing development of about 100 colleges and universities and a host of key disciplines for the 21st century. Since 2011, it has been listed under the Project 985, a major decision made by CPC and the State Council on building first-class universities of the international standard at the turn of the century. Since 2017, its three disciplines have been listed under China’s “Double-First Rate” initiative (world-class universities and first-class disciplines), specifically Chinese Medicine, Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine and Chinese Materia Medica. BUCM has 4 school-level research institutions, namely Beijing Research Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, National Institute of TCM Constitution and Preventive Medicine, National Institute of Chinese Medicine Development and Strategy, and Institute of Encephalopathy, Beijing, China. BUCM is also a sponsor of national-level academic journals like Journal of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Journal of Beijing University of ChineseMedicine (Clinical Medicine), TCM Education, and Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences (English Edition), all being important arenas for academic exchange. So far BUCM has 5,233 employees, including 1,478 full-time teachers and 346 doctoral tutors.
