Harbin Medical University is a public university located in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. HMU was founded in 1926 and boasts of a history of glory and rich traditions. It originated from the merger of the old Harbin Medical University (a.k.a. Harbin Special Medical School, founded by a pioneer medical doctor in China, Dr. Lian-De Wu) and the former first and second branch schools of Xingshan Chinese Medical University (a.k.a. Chinese Red Army Health School founded in 1931 in Ruijin, Jiangxi).

Harbin Medical University implements diversified and innovative talent cultivation modes aimed at equipping students with a wide range of knowledge, a solid grounding in theory, interdisciplinary expertise, strong practical skills, and a global perspective. HMU is one of the Chinese universities authorized by China's Ministry of Education to enroll international students in the English-medium MBBS program. The program aims to help international students become qualified medical professionals through 6 years of training in the medical school and hospitals.

First two years: Basic Medical Science

Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Histology and Embryology, Medical immunology, etc.

Third to Fifth year onwards: Clinical Medical science

Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Anesthesia, Orthopedics, Emergency Medicine, etc.

History:
HMU was founded in 1926 and features a glorious history and tradition. Dr. Wu Liande, first president of HMU, was graduated from the University of Cambridge.

Internationally Recognized Medical Education:
In 2006 and 2007, a pilot accreditation of medical education and a review visit were conducted at HMU by a WFME team (the World Federation of Medical Education), which was referenced according to the WFME Global Standards in Basic Medical Education. HMU has met the requirements of all the 36 sub-standards. It was the first accreditation of medical education in China referenced according to global standards.

Highly-Qualified Faculty and Staff:
With the experience of studying or doing research abroad, most educators at HMU hold doctorates or the highest possible degree in their field of study. They are involved in the Medical Education Reform at HMU and familiar with the up-to-date educational ideas including PBL and course integration.

There are five affiliated hospitals at HMU, which provide students with sufficient opportunities for clinical practice.
