The Media Arts and Design (MAD) Programme at UIC aims to foster a new generation of graduates with global vision, professional knowledge, creativity, leadership and research skills required for the robust development of media arts and creative industries in China and abroad. It offers students to experience a broad range of fields such as visual art, photography, digital audio-visual design, interactive design, game design, programming for artists and social design to pursue creative results in diverse professional domains. Moreover, the program's innovative interdisciplinary curriculum responds to the growing market in digital entertainment media and cultural industry in China and worldwide. During their studies at MAD, students gain artistic and problem-solving skills in emerging technologies to translate their imagined ideas into innovative products.
The programme curriculum at MAD offers rigorous theoretical foundation and production-intensive education for students who are committed to pursuing the visual arts, audio-visual and interactive arts and design as their career paths. Specifically, courses emphasize developing attention to aesthetics and conceptual base and support the comprehensive development of student interests with smaller class sizes and one-on-one instructor feedback. Moreover, during their studies, students receive ample guidance and encouragement to participate in national and international competitions, resulting in recent top awards for students and faculty at National College Art and Design Competition and Tencent Youth Game Designer Challenge.

Through intensive art and design training in media art and design, coupled with interdisciplinary collaborations and industry exchange, the programme encourages students to break through the limitations of their knowledge and abilities and explore a broader and challenging art and design domain.
As part of the studies, MAD program facilitates numerous industry exchange opportunities, including invited speakers, field trips and internships. Internship opportunities span the government and private galleries in Pearl River Delta and nationally, design firms, internet and mobile technology corporations such as Alibaba and Tencent, multimedia companies, lighting design companies, game design studios, such as Kingsoft and indie studios, events management, art centers, auction houses, and commercial art projects.
