🏫About Beijing University of Technology (BJUT)

History

Beijing University of Technology was founded in 1960 with five engineering departments. The first group of students was transferred from Beijing Institute of Technology and Beijing Normal University.

In 1981, Beijing University of Technology formed the graduate school, in 1985, the school started granting the Doctoral degrees with international standard.

In 1990, Beijing Tech acquired the College of Economics and Management from Beijing Union University, and later in 1993, Beijing Computer Institute became the College of Computer Science as part of the university. In 1993, Beijing Tech formed the Experimental College by cooperating with local businesses, which later became an independent college. Over the decades, social science's played a significant role therein. Especially, the achievements of faculties in the facet of Economics, Law and other social sciences have indicated that this university has been changed into a de facto comprehensive university with a wide variety of schools and colleges thoroughly. Most achievements are mainly focused on engineering research and education.

Beijing University of Technology is a multi-disciplinary city-level key university with a combination of engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, art, and education. In 1981, it became the first batch of master's degree awarding units approved by the Ministry of Education, and in 1985, it became a doctoral degree awarding unit. In 1996, it passed the pre-examination of the "211 Project" of the country and officially entered the ranks of the top 100 universities in the country in the 21st century. In September 2017, the school officially entered the ranks of national first-class discipline construction universities, 7 disciplines ranked among the top 500 in the QS World University Rankings 2019 and ranked 32nd in Mainland China in QS 2020 World University Rankings. Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Environment and Five disciplines of ecology and computer science entered the top 1% of ESI.

Academics

The school currently has 25 second-level teaching and research institutions, including the Faculty of Informatics and Urban Construction (constructed by 4 second-level teaching and research institutions including the School of Architectural Engineering, the School of Environmental and Energy Engineering, the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, and the School of Urban Transport). Faculty of Law, Faculty of Materials and Manufacturing (established by 4 secondary teaching and research institutions including the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the Institute of Solid Microstructure and Performance, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Electronics Technology, the Institute of Laser Engineering), the School of Applied Mathematics and Physics, and the Economics School of Management, School of Life Science and Bioengineering, School of Art and Design, School of Continuing Education, Department of Physical Education, Marxism College, International College, Beijing-Dublin International College, Fan Gongyi Honor College, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute, Beijing Smart City Research Institute, Beijing Future Network Technology High-tech Innovation Center, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Green Development Research Institute, Beijing Artificial Intelligence Research Institute.

The school offers 65 undergraduate majors, 34 postgraduate majors, and 27 master's degree degrees; there are 33 first-level disciplines, 20 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, and 33 first-level master's degree authorization levels. There are 12 types of degree authorizations; 18 post-doctoral mobile stations, with 207 people at the station. There are 3 national key disciplines, 21 key disciplines in Beijing, and 18 key construction disciplines in Beijing. 2 national engineering laboratories, 3 “111 plan” intelligence introduction bases, 1 national industry-university-research center, 1 international cooperative research center, 1 national key laboratory cultivation base jointly established by the province and the Ministry, and engineering research by the Ministry of Education There are 2 centers, 5 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 1 strategic research center of the Ministry of Education, 44 Beijing-level scientific research bases, and 4 industry key laboratories. Two professional journals are published regularly.

Campus

Beijing University of Technology is located in southeastern Beijing. The campus covers an area of about 800,000 square meters with 4,940,000 square meters of floor space.

Beijing Tech's main library is a modern complex occupying a floor area of more than 20,000 square meters. The library houses about 700,000 printed materials, 60,000 e-books, more than 40 kinds of database resources, forming a documentation resource system that meets the demands of teaching and research. The library also cooperates with the Capital Library of Beijing and the Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Science, providing professional services to the student and faculty.

Beijing Tech was selected to host the Badminton competitions of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, a new athletic gymnasium was finished in September 2007, and met the requirements of the International Olympic Committee.

About the College of International Education

Beijing University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as“BJUT”) is one of the first universities to carry out education for international students in China. In 1990, BJUT recruited its first international student. In 2002, with approval from the Ministry of Education, BJUT set up a program named "Chinese Language and Culture" for international students. In 2005, Geraldine John Kikwasi from Tanzania received a doctoral degree in Management and became the first international student to receive a doctoral degree at BJUT. BJUT College of International Education (hereinafter referred to as “CIE”) was established in 2011, operating in the International Office of BJUT. In 2012, according to the adjustment launched by the Ministry of Education, the "Chinese Language and Culture" program was renamed as "Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages”, qualified to award a Bachelor's Degree in Arts. In May of 2016, CIE separated from the International Office and became an independent institute of teaching and scientific research. So far, BJUT has cultivated around 10,000 foreign students from more than 90 countries.

CIE is mainly responsible for enrollment, teaching, scholarship, visa and daily management of the international students at BJUT.CIE is also responsible for the construction of the “Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages” major, the compulsory courses, cultural courses and Chinese courses for all international students. After many years’ efforts, CIE has built a well-organized system of international student cultivation, offering many degree and non-degree programs. At present, international students can study and be awarded degrees in around 44 bachelor programs, 42 master programs, and 29 doctoral programs. CIE has also developed 2-year English-taught master programs in Information 、in Urban construction、in Materials & Fabrication and in the Chinese economy and society. The non-degree programs in CIE, such as the Engineering Program for International Students, Chinese Contemporary Business and Culture and Doing Business in China, are very popular choices for international students.

In recent years, CIE recruits annually more than 1000 international students, among whom 40% are degree-seeking students. Now, CIE has the qualification of recruiting international students through the China Government Scholarship Program, the Confucius Institute Scholarship Program, and the Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship. CIE is also one of the HSK Chinese Proficiency Test Centers designated by Hanban and the Confucius Institute.

January is mostly sunny month in Beijing, but it can be very cold and windy. Temperatures can drop to -20°C (4°F)

Clothing Advice: Thanks to heating systems, a thin sweater is usually enough if you are staying inside. If venturing outside you have to wear a thick sweater, a warm down coat, boots, gloves, hat and scarf to keep warm.

🏠 Accommodation

The International Students Dormitory of Beijing University of Technology provides different types of dormitory rooms for international students. Included in each room are bedspreads, air-conditioner, telephone, color TV set, Internet access, and furniture. The apartments have the capacity to accommodate around 482 students. BJUT provides double rooms and triple rooms for their international students.

💸 Living Expenses in Beijing

Expense Average costs
Accommodation On average, a single room student dormitory accommodation will cost about RMB 1500 per month, or about RMB 18,000 per year, including utilities.
Food A meal at the university canteen/restaurant or in a fast-food restaurant outside would cost about RMB 7 to RMB 30. The average monthly bill for students that will study in Beijing, China can be between the range of RMB 1800 to RMB 4000.
Transportation A one-way local transport ticket in Beijing costs about RMB 4. The taxi start rate costs about RMB 13, plus the additional taxi rate per kilometer of about RMB 2.30. A monthly transport pass for university students in Beijing would cost around RMB 200.
Extra costs: Some extra costs for university students who will study in Beijing, China are books and study materials around RMB 210 to RMB 350 per month (increased costs for those studying Sciences, Medicine, or Art), and medical insurance of about RMB 400 per six months.

Entry Requirements

- Studied a degree in English before
- Can demonstrate a high level of English

Once submitted to China Admissions, we will review your application within 2-3 days and proceed to the university or ask you for further clarification

After it has been processed to the university you will receive your unique application ID from each university.

The university may contact you directly for further questions.

We will then follow up each week with the university for updates. As soon as there is any update we will let you know. If you have made other plans, decide to withdraw / change address at any time please let us know.

After you have been accepted you will receive your admissions letter electronically and asked to pay the non-refundable deposit to the university.
