About Beijing

Beijing, the capital of China, is an ancient city with a long history. Back in 3000 years ago in Zhou dynasty, Beijing, which was called Ji at the moment, had been named the capital of Yan. Thereafter, Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasty all made Beijing their capital. Therefore, Beijing was famous for “Capital of a thousand years”.

The long history leaves Beijing precious cultural treasure. Winding for several kilometers in Beijing area, the Great Wall is the only man-made structure that could be seen in the space. The Summer Palace is a classic composition of ancient royal gardens, and the Forbidden City is the largest royal palaces in the world. Tiantan is where the emperor used to fete their ancestors, and also the soul of Chinese ancient constructions. The four sites above have been confirmed world cultural heritage by UNESCO. However, the best representatives for Beijing are the vanishing Hutongs and square courtyards. Through hundreds of years, they have become a symbol of Beijing’s life. Tian’anmen square being still brilliant today with cloverleaf junctions and skyscrapers everywhere, the old-timey scene and modern culture are combined to present a brand new visage of Beijing.

Campus

The main campus of CUEB is located in Huaxiang, Fengtai District, and concentrates on full-time undergraduate and postgraduate education, while the Hongmiao Campus in Chaoyang District focuses on international and continuing education.

The two campuses are collectively 360,000 square yards and have a campus library that houses over 1.6 million books, and more than 2,500 periodicals in both Chinese and foreign languages. The original Hongmiao campus is located between the East 3rd and 4th ring roads and is a 5-minute walk to Beijing’s Central Business District (CBD). The main campus is located between the southwest 3rd and 4th ring roads in the Jijiamiao area of the Fengtai distinct of Beijing.

Students Activities

Many recreational and social activities are arranged for international students at CUEB both on and off campus, providing a range of extracurricular experiences. Over the past few years, CUEB has developed a unique set of extracurricular activities, such as the New Year’s Gala, the Chinese and Foreign Students’ Association, The Chinese and Foreign Students’ Open Dialogue Forum, and the International Cultures Festival among many other special cultural activities. The notoriety of these activities has increased markedly both on and off campus.

For the past few years, outside of actively participating in campus activities, Chinese and international students have started a basketball tournament, and a football tournament among other sports activities as a platform for all students to participate in sporting activities. The school has also taken the initiative to plan for social studies activities off campus, such as trips to the Great Wall and the Summer Palace, trips to experience China’s traditional acrobatics shows, as well as trips to businesses and enterprises. The activities have all earned good reviews from international students.
