Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) is a public language university located in the northwestern suburbs of Beijing, 12 km from Tian'anmen, the center of the city, and was founded in 1962. The BLCU campus covers an area of 38 hectares, with a floor space of 240,000 square meters.

BLCU is the only international university in China with its main task set at teaching the Chinese language and culture to non-Chinese students and serves as the center for teaching Chinese and the study of the Chinese language.

🏫About Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU)

Beijing Language and Culture University's main task is to teach the Chinese language and culture to foreign students. As well as teaching Chinese, it also undertakes the tasks of teaching foreign languages, computer science, and technology, finance and accountancy to Chinese students. It provides training courses for teachers who specialize in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and it offers pre-departure language training to candidates intending to live and work abroad.

BLCU has the longest history, the largest scope, and the most qualified teaching faculties of its kind in the area of teaching the Chinese language and culture to foreigners. BLCU distinguishes itself by its unique cultural atmosphere of diversity, which attracts a large number of students from both home and abroad. Since the founding of the University over 40 years ago, more than 60,000 students from over 160 countries and regions have stepped out confidently into the world from here. BLCU Conference Center covers a floorage of 24000 square meters, including 290 guestrooms, a restaurant and meeting rooms.

Expense Average costs
Accommodation On average, a single room student dormitory accommodation will cost about RMB 1500 per month, or about RMB 18,000 per year, including utilities.
Food A meal at the university canteen/restaurant or in a fast-food restaurant outside would cost about RMB 7 to RMB 30. The average monthly bill for students that will study in Beijing, China can be between the range of RMB 1800 to RMB 4000.
Transportation A one-way local transport ticket in Beijing costs about RMB 4. The taxi start rate costs about RMB 13, plus the additional taxi rate per kilometer of about RMB 2.30. A monthly transport pass for university students in Beijing would cost around RMB 200.
Extra costs: Some extra costs for university students who will study in Beijing, China are books and study materials around RMB 210 to RMB 350 per month (increased costs for those studying Sciences, Medicine, or Art), and medical insurance of about RMB 400 per six months.

Application process:

Applying Online is simple in just a few steps. More information is available here.

The first steps are to choose the programs, pay the application fee and upload the application documents.

Once submitted to China Admissions, we will review your application within 2-3 days and proceed to the university or ask you for further clarification

After it has been processed to the university you will receive your unique application ID from each university.

The university may contact you directly for further questions.

We will then follow up each week with the university for updates. As soon as there is any update we will let you know. If you have made other plans, decide to withdraw / change address at any time please let us know.

After you have been accepted you will receive your admissions letter electronically and asked to pay the non-refundable deposit to the university.

Once you have paid the deposit the university will issue you the admissions letter and visa form to your home country.

. " I studied a 1 month program in Chinese at BLCU. I really enjoyed studying at BLCU. The campus is really nice and has a very international community. I met some great people and still keep in contact with many of the people I met then. I stayed in Furunjiayuan which is an apartment building on the east gate of BLCU, about 5 minutes walk. It was quite simple to get an apartment there. The food on campus was really nice. It is also a nice location close to Wudaokou subway station. The price was very affordable and the teachers were nice. We had nice dinners together with the teachers and students. "

. " Some teachers are very good, some are very inflexible in delivering content and teach in a patronising manner as if university students are primary school students (perhaps this is a cultural difference). Teaching material is very rigid and outdated, for eg. the higher level classes can only use recordings to practice our listening from the 90s. Apart from getting drunk, going clubbing or playing sports on facilities available at uni for public use - no substantial opportunities for students at the university to mingle or socialise with one another. Important infrastructure unable to be used due to maintenance works during term time (ie. Library and gym). No kitchen cooking equipment (eg. stoves, ovens) provided in new accommodation building No. 18 and 19 despite being promised availability before arriving in Beijing. Promised also that the kitchen equipment will be added quickly to our flats but no progress made at all."

. " BLCU is an amazing university, great location, lots of foreigners, teachers are equipped to working with foreigners. Smooth and fast registration, easy to apply for. Many places to hang out inside the university, there are also a gym, tennis, basketball courts.I studied my bachelors degree in journalism, but it's available only in Chinese. Wish they had it in English, but overall I'm glad that I chose this university to study."
