About China University of Petroleum – Beijing

The China University of Petroleum-Beijing was founded in 1953 with the main focus of producing qualified and professional engineers who can manage technical services for China's oil industry.  CUPB is a 1st-tier university that has been offering quality programs and research since its inception. 

The university continues to improve its programs with the development focusing on energy-related fields. It aims to develop new disciplines geared towards sustainable and renewable energy technology and clean energy technology, deep-water technology, energy strategy and policy study, safety engineering technology, environmental engineering, and energy management.

To achieve this goal, CUPB is employing the skills of top professors and scholars, restructuring academic staff and internationalizing its research and management efforts. Today, CUPB offers 25 Bachelor’s, 49 Master’s, 32 Ph.D. programs and one diploma program in Chinese Language Study. 12794 students are enrolled in the campus, including 744 Ph.D. students, 4633 postgraduate students, 6894 undergraduate students, and 524 international students.

Location

CUPB has one main campus. It is located at 18 Fuxue Road, Changping District, Beijing City. Changping District is a naturally beautiful region with lush greens and forests. In fact, many tourists visit the district every year. CUPB is five miles to the famous Ming Tombs and 15 miles to the historic Great Wall of China. If you love nature, CUPB is surrounded by mountains, trees and a big reservoir where you can breathe in the fresh air, enjoy the beauty of nature and spend time by yourself. 

Scholarships 

CUPB has a wide range of scholarships available for international students. You can apply in any one of these scholarships if you're pursuing a masters or doctoral degree. CUPB has foreign sister schools, and students coming from these universities will be a top priority for the scholarships. Students from foreign countries with excellent academic standing can also apply for scholarships. 

Types scholarships available include the Joint Ph.D. program scholarship, Full degree scholarship and the Research Scholarship. To be admitted to any of these scholarships, you need to have proof of your English language skills. An IELTS score of 6.0 and a TOEFL score of 83 or above is a requirement you need to meet. 

Campus Life

The China University of Petroleum-Beijing makes sure that you enjoy your stay at the university. CUPB organizes several events, activities, gatherings and field trips so you can meet new friends and immerse in the Chinese culture. Beijing celebrates many festivals so you can see first hand the colourful culture and traditions of China. 

CUPB is equipped with modern facilities such as its university library which has over 1,176,000 volumes of books covering a wide range of topics. The university also has a computer lab which is accessible to students. The campus also has access to an internet connection. Besides this, a University Health Center is available if you want to request an appointment or private consultation. 

If you like playing sports, CUPB has a university sports center and recreation hall. Three athletic grounds, a multi-purpose pavilion, a swimming pool, and a gymnasium are also available for your disposable.

🏠 Accommodation

The China University of Petroleum - Beijing (CUPB) has available accommodations at an affordable price. The fee ranges from RMB 1,500 and RMB 2,400 per month. Dormitories are available for Chinese students and overseas students can live in the international students' apartment. Inside CUPB, there is also a hotel where you can stay, the Cuigong Hotel. You can also live off-campus, except for freshmen students of the Chinese Language Program.

💸 Living Expenses in Beijing

Expense Average costs
Accommodation On average, a single room student dormitory accommodation will cost about RMB 1500 per month, or about RMB 18,000 per year, including utilities.
Food A meal at the university canteen/restaurant or in a fast-food restaurant outside would cost about RMB 7 to RMB 30. The average monthly bill for students that will study in Beijing, China can be between the range of RMB 1800 to RMB 4000.
Transportation A one-way local transport ticket in Beijing costs about RMB 4. The taxi start rate costs about RMB 13, plus the additional taxi rate per kilometer of about RMB 2.30. A monthly transport pass for university students in Beijing would cost around RMB 200.
Extra costs: Some extra costs for university students who will study in Beijing, China are books and study materials around RMB 210 to RMB 350 per month (increased costs for those studying Sciences, Medicine, or Art), and medical insurance of about RMB 400 per six months.

Application process:

Applying Online is simple in just a few steps. More information is available here.

The first steps are to choose the programs, pay the application fee and upload the application documents.

Once submitted to China Admissions, we will review your application within 2-3 days and proceed to the university or ask you for further clarification

After it has been processed to the university you will receive your unique application ID from each university.

The university may contact you directly for further questions.

We will then follow up each week with the university for updates. As soon as there is any update we will let you know. If you have made other plans, decide to withdraw / change address at any time please let us know.

After you have been accepted you will receive your admissions letter electronically and asked to pay the non-refundable deposit to the university.

Once you have paid the deposit the university will issue you the admissions letter and visa form to your home country.
