📚About the Program

Bachelor’s in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen)

Knowledge of mathematics is essential to all scientists and engineers - it is the language with which we formulate theories and natural laws and express our ideas. The programme is designed to educate students to acquire both a solid understanding of mathematics and the ability to use it. In addition to fundamental mathematical theory, students will be trained in applying mathematical modeling and computational methods to formulate and solve practical problems arising in business, finance, government, engineering, physical science, life science, and social science.

Students in the first two years will take courses in basic mathematics and general areas of science and engineering. In the third and fourth years, students will study specialized courses in the streams they have chosen. Certain advanced courses on the frontiers of mathematics will also be offered to those students who wish to broaden their knowledge or are planning to continue their studies in other subfields of mathematics.

The programme provides students with three streams of concentration:

  1. Pure Mathematics
  2. Applied Mathematics
  3. Financial Mathematics

The emphasis of the programme will initially be more on the applied side of mathematics, however, a stream of concentration in Pure Mathematics will also be offered to those students who aim to become theoretical mathematicians. Also, the programme will have a stream in financial mathematics, which is becoming increasingly important, considering, in particular, the large demand for talents with such knowledge in Shenzhen – one of the country’s financial centers.
