The academic programs at SUSTC focus on sciences and engineering, complemented by selected programs in management science, humanities, and social sciences. At present, SUSTC has eight departments and one school, i.e. physics, chemistry, biology, material science and engineering, electronic and electrical engineering, finance and financial engineering, mathematics, computer science (in preparation) and the school of environmental science and engineering. Currently, SUSTC has about 180 faculty members, the majority of whom have oversea education or working backgrounds.

By Fall 2015, SUSTC have 2100 undergraduate students with academic quality ranked in par with those enrolled in the top 10 to 15 of the best universities in China. SUSTC emphasizes student-led innovation, small-classroom teaching, undergraduate participation in research and student engagement through the creation of a living learning environment through residential halls and the adviser system. Most courses are taught in English and/or use text books from North America or Europe. SUSTC strives to provide global education for every student during their college years at SUSTC.

By 2020, SUSTC will reach the full capacity of 800 faculty members, 4000 undergraduate students and 4000 graduate students.

About Shenzhen

Shenzhen, neighboring Hong Kong, is located on the eastern bank of the Pearl River. A picturesque modern coastal city on the southern tip of Mainland China, Shenzhen has not only fast economic and social development, but also harmony between human and nature.

Campus

SUSTC’s campus creates a stunning backcloth for all that happens within the University. SUSTC offers unparalleled resources to the University community, including libraries, laboratories,  and research centers to support scholarly work in nearly any field or discipline.

Surrounded by winding creeks and wooded hills, the SUSTC campus occupies a two-square-kilometer site in Nanshan (Southern Mountain) district of Shenzhen.

Despite the absorbing natural beauty, we now have 32 main buildings surrounded by abundant amenities for cultural and athletic purpose, which takes up about 210,000 square meters. To meet demands of 2,100 students currently, we provide well-equipped classrooms that accommodate various class sizes, dedicated labs that assist teaching and science researches, modern faculty and administrative offices that ensure effectiveness and intimate study spaces that thrive the academic community. Meanwhile, our desirable library, which houses an extensive collection of books with access to our global library resources, immerses students into seas of knowledge.

As the expansion on campus, we expect to house 8,000 students in 2018 with a greenest, eco-friendly campus in China.

Living in University

There are 59 students societies of SUSTC, in fields of social innovation, practice and public benefits, literature and art etc., including 4 societies for academic skill, 20 societies for culture and art, 19 societies for sports, 8 societies for professional technology and 4 societies for public interests practice, and the society activities enrich campus culture and life of students and teachers of the University and create harmonious culture atmosphere. There are 59 societies of SUSTC, in the fields of science innovation, interests and hobbies, literature arts and sports. If you wish to soar in the imaginative world, we have the wonderful Scientific Fiction Society for you; if you want to show your skill on the field, tennis, football, basketball and many sports societies wait for your coming; if you have lithe and graceful dancing and adept instruments, the Hip-hop Society, Latin Dance Society and various instrument societies are waiting for your to explore brilliance. The society activities have sound working foundation and culture atmosphere, and enrich campus culture.
