In order to promote the development of higher education of International students in Tianjin, to further improve talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, and cultural exchange, Tianjin Government has set up the Scholarship (TGS) for International students.

What the Scholarship Includes

The Tianjin Government Scholarship is a full and partial scholarship for upcoming and current Master's and Ph.D. students which covers tuition fees, living allowance, and comprehensive medical insurance fees.

Supporting Categories:

1) Master (1 Year Scholarship Duration)


  • Full: Tuition: 30000RMB; Living allowance: 1700RMB/month (10 months in total); Comprehensive medical insurance 800RMB

  • Partial: Tuition: 30000RMB

2) Ph.D. (1 Year Scholarship Duration)


  • Full: Tuition: 38000RMB; Living allowance: 2000RMB/month (10 months in total); Comprehensive medical insurance 800RMB

  • Partial: Tuition: 38000RMB

Note：Tianjin Government Scholarship is a one-year duration scholarship open for both prospective students and current students at Tianjin University, it could be applied year by year.

Who is the scholarship for?

Recipients are Masters and Ph.D. International Students in Tianjin and students who wish to study in Tianjin.

All candidates are expected to meet the following requirements:

1. Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health;

2. Requirements for applicants’ degree and age: 

Applicants applying for a Master degree should hold a Bachelor diploma and be under the age of 35;

Applicants applying for a Ph.D. degree should hold a Master's diploma and be under the age of 40.

3. Language Proficiency requirements:

English-taught programs applicants need to submit an English proficiency certificate (English native speakers are exempted). TOEFL: no less than 80, IELTS: no less than 6.0. （Native English speakers are exempted）

4. Applicants should have good conduct, good physical and mental health, and be willing to abide by the laws and regulations of China and Tianjin University.

Tianjin, alternately romanized as Tientsin, is a municipality and a coastal metropolis in Northern China on the shore of the Bohai Sea. It is one of the nine national central cities in Mainland China.

✅ Entry Requirements

The minimum age is 18 and the maximum age is 40.

Min Chinese Level (HSK): None

English fluency is required.
You need to be either:
- A native English speaker
- Studied a degree in English before
- Can demonstrate a high level of English
- Having an English certificate (You can take the English test online here) such as IELTS level 6 or TOEFL is an advantage. You can take the English test online here

Minimum education level: Bachelor's.
