Hunan City University is a full-time undergraduate university sponsored by the People's Government of Hunan Province. With the profound cultural heritage and the beautiful natural environment, it is located in Yiyang, Hunan Province, the middle- lower reaches of the Yangtze Plain, and the core city of the eco-economic circle around the South Bank of Dongting Lake. With a predecessor of Yiyang Normal Specialised College in 1970 and Yiyang Foundation College in 1978,the Yiyang normal college and Hunan Urban Construction College merged into Hunan City University in March, 2002, approved by the Ministry of education .The school abides by the motto of "cultivation of morality and learning, and unity of knowledge and practice"，trying to run the university satisfying the people. In 2012, the Ministry of Education approved the assessment of undergraduate teaching. In 2014, it became "the pilot unit of information construction of the Ministry of education". What’s more, it’s Hunan civilized unit and has a good social reputation. Hunan City University covers an area of 1,237,340 m2 (with a floor area of 534,000 m2). Its fixed assets are up to 1.41 billion yuan and paper books collection are 1.82 million books. HCU has four major disciplinary systems for Urban construction, Information manufacturing, Management service and other fundamental courses. It sets up 13 schools with 54 undergraduate majors, covering multiple disciplines including Science, Engineering, Literature, Management, Education, Art and Economics etc. HCU recruits students from 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China. It has over 17,000 full-time students and over 6,500 adult education students. The existing staff of HCU is over 1,200, including over 960 full-time teachers, among which 463 teachers have senior professional titles, 836 teachers have masters or doctoral degrees. HCU has created a strong faculty including 1 member of The Ministry of Education Undergraduate Teaching Steering Committee, 2 new century excellent talents, 9 experts who enjoy the special state council allowance, 4 provincial teaching experts and 13 candidates of new century “121 talents project”. With teaching its center, Hunan City University pays great attention to educational reform and teaching quality improvement. It already owns 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 2 national maker space, 1 national characteristic specialties, 1 national experimental major of comprehensive reform and 5 education projects of the Ministry of Education with the university-industry cooperation. There are 5 key constructive disciplines of Hunan province, 4 key majors and 6 characteristic specialties of general institutes of higher education in Hunan province. What’s more, Hunan City University possesses 7 excellent teaching practice bases, 3 experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 experimental teaching demonstration centers with virtual simulation, 2 innovative training centers for students and 4 demonstration bases for talent cultivation with university-enterprise cooperation at the level of Hunan province. In recent years, Hunan City University has won 3 state-level teaching awards and 26 province-level teaching awards. The college gains a foothold in the construction industry, highlighting the theme of city, and fosters a large number of advanced technicians with a teaching method of the combination of industry, education and research. The employment of graduates has been exceeding 95% for 15 years in a row. Salaries of graduates, five years into graduation, repeatedly rank the first among the similar colleges in Hunan province and the college has been successively awarded as the Typical Experience of College Graduates Employment and Employment Entrepreneurship Model College of Hunan Province. A galaxy of graduates are devoted to the state key construction projects like the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest), Qingshang nuclear power station, Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway, and Hangzhou Bay Bridge, etc. That is why the college is hailed as the cradle of urban construction talents. It is the Unobstruction Technology Support Unit of Hunan Province. IN recent years, it captured 37 National Natural Science Foundation and National Social Science Foundation Projects and won 19 national and provincial Science and Technology Awards and Outstanding Achievement Award of Social Science Fund Project in total. Its achievement of planning and architectural design won 63 prize at provincial department level and above. It is the institution of highest award level and number of planning and design field in Hunan Province. And it is advanced in the aspects of urban and rural planning, ecological planning, and research on development and application of geographic information system. The Aademic Journal of Hunan City University(social science version) is listed in “Top 100 National Social Science Journal” and“ Hunan Top 10 Excellent Theoretical Support Periodicals”. The journal is of obvious characteristics and approved to be renamed City Academic Journal by SARFT officially. Making use of the discipline advantages, HCU strengthens the integration of production and education and has achieved remarkable results in serving local economic and social development. HCU was among the first universities to be included in the science and technology industrial parks of universities in Hunan. Our project "Classification Standards of Green Space in Towns (Villages)” was approved by MOHURD (Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development) as the national industry standard, and the project “Overall Planning for the Green Heart Area of Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Urban Agglomeration” won the first prize in global bidding. HCU has played a leading role in establishing Hunan Urban Science Research Institute. There are several school-run enterprises such as the Institute of Planning and Architectural Design, Supervision Company, Civil Engineering Testing Center, Dark Tea Research and Development Company, etc. The Institute of Planning and Architectural Design of HCU is a national high-tech enterprise with the honors of 6 A-class qualifications and an annual output value over 100 million yuan. HCU attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchanges, and has close contact with universities in South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, Ghana, Hong Kong, Macao and other countries. It has been acknowledged as Malaysia’s “annual high quality partner university” of higher education. It has worked in collaboration with Vitellia Polytechnic Institute of New Zealand for the education program of visual communication design. Besides, compared with universities of the same rate in Hunan, HCU was the first to have cooperated with Ghana University for running a Confucius Institute. In 2016, the Third Party Congress of the Hunan City University planned a new blueprint for the development of the university, and identified the main development goals and tasks of the 13th five-year plan: to construct a high level application-oriented university with distinctive features; to highlight the connotation construction and characteristic development; to comprehensively implement the project of talent training and upgrading, the project of driving the innovation service, the project of optimization of teaching staff, the project of improvement of the students' ability to improve, and the project of happiness index growth. The university works hard to promote the integration of medical science disciplines into school, ensures high-level pass of review of undergraduate teaching assessment by the Ministry of Education, and aims for the approval of awarding master’s degree. At the new starting point, promoting reform, stimulating vitality, tapping potential, conducting pressure, and enhancing core competitiveness, the university is aiming at “double top”.
