Known for its biological technology and agricultural science programs, Jiangxi Agricultural University (JXAU) is a multi-disciplinary university. It is one of the first school in China to be accredited for both Bachelor and Master degrees, and is the first school to offer post-graduate education in Jiangxi. The University was co-built by the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province, the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Forestry Administration, and is supported by the National Basic Ability Construction Project of Central and Western China. JXAU is located ideally in the Nanchang Economic & Technological Development Zone with a campus area of 10.7km2 (4.1mi2). The garden-esque campus is set against beautiful scenery and has a peaceful atmosphere. JXAU has a proud history that can be traced back to the Jiangxi Industrial School established in 1905, and was renamed in 1908 as the Higher Agricultural Institute. After years of development, undergraduate education began officially at National Zhongzheng University in 1940. The school was renamed again in 1949 as Nanchang University. Jiangxi Agricultural College was founded in 1952, encompassing Nanchang University, and in 1969 joined with Jiangxi Communist Labor General University, which was founded in 1958. Finally, in November 1980, the school was renamed Jiangxi Agricultural University. JXAU offers comprehensive higher learning in any of nine fields of study: agriculture; science; technology; economics; management; literature; law; education and art. At present, JXAU has more than 28,000 full-time students (including the students from its independent college) enrolled throughout 17 schools. There are 68 undergraduate majors, 76 Master’s degree programs, 17 doctoral degree programs, 2 centers plus 1 research station for post-doctoral research, 6 and 20 Doctoral and Master’s degree programs for first-level disciplines.
