📖 Introduction

Founded in 1912, Shanghai Ocean University is a multi-disciplinary and applied research university. SHOU was jointly built by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the State Oceanic Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

In 2017, SHOU was chosen as a “world-class discipline building university”. The university mainly focuses on the development of disciplines such as agriculture, science, engineering, economics, arts, and management.

Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU) is a public university located in Shanghai, China. It was formerly known as Shanghai Fisheries University. The university got its current name on May 6, 2008, as authorized by the Ministry of Education The People's Republic of China. SHOU was moved Lingang New City. 

SOU is a Double First-Class Discipline University with Double First-Class status in specific disciplines. The university has nine colleges namely: Fishery, Oceanology, Food Science, Economics and Trade, Information, Humanities, Further Education, Vocational and Technical Education, AIEN (Sino-Australian Cooperated).

Shanghai Ocean University has over 10,000 regular students and 3,700 postgraduate students. SHOU's academic faculty and staff are some of the best in China. Of the staff members, 200 teachers hold senior academic titles. Besides this, the university boasts of modern and state-of-the-art facilities such as its massive library which has a collection of 460,000 books.

Scholarships

SHOU is a leading university in China and to attract exceptional talents, the university offers scholarships to students. If you want to pursue degree programs, SHOU has the “Shanghai Ocean University President’s Scholarship”(SHOU-PS). To construct the science and technology center with global influence, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government offers the “Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students” or SGS. Chinese Government Scholarships are also available for application at the university.

Postgraduates: $2,200-3,700

Doctoral students: $2,700-4,200

Short-term students: $350-600 per month

Tuition fee for science, technology, agriculture, medicine, sports, art

Undergraduates: $1,800-6,400

Postgraduates: $2,600-7,400

Doctoral: $2,900-8,400

Short-term students: $350-1,200

Registration fee: $50-100

Campus Life

SHOU has a friendly and diverse community of students. You will meet students of all nationalities, learn from internationally acclaimed professors, further your knowledge and skills through intensitive internships and gain access to many facilities around the campus. Besides the four walls of the classroom, the school organizes fun activities, celebrations, parties, and immersions. You can also join sports meets, coffee talks and mingle with other students on the campus. 

Shanghai Ocean University has a strategic location. Public transportation is easily accessible and restaurants and canteens are open almost 24/7. Hospitals, business halls, shopping malls, banks, and the police station are near the university campus.

    Application process:

    Applying Online is simple in just a few steps. More information is available here.

    The first steps are to choose the programs, pay the application fee and upload the application documents.

    Once submitted to China Admissions, we will review your application within 2-3 days and proceed to the university or ask you for further clarification

    After it has been processed to the university you will receive your unique application ID from each university.

    The university may contact you directly for further questions.

    We will then follow up each week with the university for updates. As soon as there is any update we will let you know. If you have made other plans, decide to withdraw / change address at any time please let us know.

    After you have been accepted you will receive your admissions letter electronically and asked to pay the non-refundable deposit to the university.

    Once you have paid the deposit the university will issue you the admissions letter and visa form to your home country.
