Yantai University, located in Laishan District of Yantai City, is a key comprehensive Universityin Shandong Province. With the Yellow Sea to east and the green mountains to the west, Yantai University enjoys beautiful scenery and a pleasant climate. Yantai University was established in July 1984, under approval from the Ministry of Education and jointly built by Peking University and Tsinghua University. As the two most prestigious universities in China, Peking University and Tsinghua University have put their assistance into Yantai University in their long-term strategic plan to ensure its fast and steady development. In 1995, Yantai University passed the national evaluation on undergraduate teaching and was one of the top universities in the 2004 National Evaluation. It was awarded the qualification for graduate education in 1998. In 2007, it was entrusted with and selected as the training school for military officers. In 2011, Yantai University was chosen for education excellence in the Engineering Training Program by the Department of Education. In 2012, it was selected as a training facility for law, and was approved for the special needs doctoral training program. In 2013, the first batch of elite engineering and construction projects were launched, a first in Shandong Province. The university covers and area of 1.4 million square meters, a construction area of 935,000 square meters and holds teaching instruments and equipment to the value of 3.17 million Renminbi (Yuan). The on-campus library has a total area of 43,800 square meters and holds 1.58 million volumes and collection of printed books, newspaper and magazines, as well as 240,000 volumes of annual subscriptions and more than 2200 printed foreign periodicals. More than 1.74 million kinds of electronic books and 31,000 electronic journals were introduced into the library including over 100 in the foreign language database. As a comprehensive university, full of youthful vigor, Yantai University has 30,000 regular students including undergraduates, graduates and international students. The university has 57 undergraduate majors including literature, science, engineering, law, agriculture, medicine, economics and management, education and art. The university pays great attention to the development of international academic exchanges and has established cooperative relationships with 97 university and academic institutions in 32 countries and regions. Yantai University has also established reciprocal student exchange programs with 28 partner universities in the Republic of Korea, Japan, United States of America, Norway, France, Switzerland, England and Taiwan. Yantai University is one of the first colleges and universities approved by the state council to accept foreign students and employ foreign experts.
