JMD at a Glance

• We're proud to be a world-leading higher education institution in China to launch the very pioneering “Joint Multi-Degree (JMD) Programme” which opens up global study hubs for future leaders, dedicated to the delivery of an exclusive university pathway for international students across the world. What makes this programme unique is down to three key components: faster, better, and stronger. We believe that this approach would give you an unrivaled study experience and the best chance of a successful career upon graduation
• FASTER: JMD is designed to offer a time- and cost-efficient programme that enables you to complete more degrees within a shorter duration. It takes only 4 years to get 3 degrees including two Bachelor Degrees:one from ECUST and one from a chosen JMD partner university, plus one optional Master Degree from any chosen university in the JMD-bridged country.
• BETTER: By building partnerships with prestigious partners in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australasia around the globe, JMD Programme also provides an exclusive solution for students not only to get more degrees, but also to obtain more invaluable opportunities to develop and share global perspectives.You can benefit from the internationally informed curricula as well as multicultural environments to live and learn in. This programme also facilitate the world-leading research that takes place at ECUST.
• STRONGER: JMD Programme is committed to building an elite education pathway to equip you with stronger knowledge, skills and attributes to be globally employable and to make a positive contribution to the world, by leveraging the merits of leading Eastern and Western institutions. You will be provided with the most cutting-edge knowledge, international outlook as well as practical experience in a real-life context, which would secure you a successful career upon graduation.
I. Academic Highlights
• The Intelligent Chemical Engineering program is designed to meet the growing demands of digitalization, intelligence in the chemical process industries. Building on the strong foundation of Chemical Engineering and Technology, this program integrates artificial intelligence, data science, and process systems engineering to establish a synergistic training framework that connects physical mechanisms, data-driven modeling, system optimization, and engineering practice.
• Centered on the fundamental chemical engineering principles and empowered by intelligent modeling and optimization technologies, the program focuses on key application areas including carbon capture and utilization, green hydrogen systems, low-carbon chemical processes, and advanced materials manufacturing. Students are systematically trained to address complex engineering problems through digital modeling, intelligent decision-making, and whole-process optimization.
• Through a progressive curriculum structure spanning engineering fundamentals, intelligent methods, systems engineering, and hands-on practice, the program cultivates graduates with strong capabilities in hybrid mechanistic-data modeling, process integration, intelligent control, and its application in chemical engineering. The program aims to develop globally competitive engineers with innovation awareness and social responsibility, supporting the digital transformation and sustainable development of the process industries.
• The Intelligent Chemical Engineering program is firmly built upon the long-established strengths of the Chemical Engineering and Technology of ECUST. Leveraging its comprehensive curriculum, mature engineering practice platforms, and high-level faculty team, the program extends the traditional core courses-including reaction engineering, separation processes, transport phenomena, and chemical thermodynamics-by integrating artificial intelligence and data-driven methodologies, enabling a deep fusion of classical chemical engineering principles with modern intelligent technologies.
• The existing program has developed systematic teaching and research frameworks in process simulation, process intensification, reaction-separation integration, and systems engineering, providing a solid foundation for intelligent modeling, process optimization, and digital plant development. In parallel, multi-level experimental and practical platforms have been established to offer authentic engineering scenarios, supporting progressive training from fundamental experiments and virtual simulation to full-scale engineering practice.
• On this basis, the Intelligent Chemical Engineering program further enhances the established education system by incorporating data science, machine learning, and process systems engineering, forming a distinctive development pathway. This ensures a robust foundation and sustainable capacity for cultivating next-generation intelligent chemical engineers.
II.Educational Objectives
• The Intelligent Chemical Engineering program aims to cultivate high-level engineering professionals who possess solid foundations in chemical engineering, strong capabilities in intelligent modeling and process systems engineering, and a broad vision toward digital transformation of chemical engineering industries.
• Graduates of this program are expected to systematically master fundamental knowledge in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and core chemical engineering disciplines, while acquiring essential competencies in data science, artificial intelligence, and intelligent process optimization. The program emphasizes the integration of mechanistic understanding with data-driven approaches, enabling students to analyze, design, optimize, and operate complex chemical processes under multi-scale and multi-constraint conditions.
• Through a combination of theoretical learning, experimental training, engineering practice, and research-oriented education, students develop strong engineering skills, including problem identification and solving, process modeling and simulation, system integration, intelligent decision-making, and sustainable process design. Particular attention is given to emerging application areas such as low-carbon chemical processes, green hydrogen systems, and advanced materials manufacturing, etc.
• In terms of comprehensive development, the program places equal importance on professional competence, innovation awareness, teamwork, communication skills, lifelong learning ability, and social responsibility.
• Within approximately five years after graduation, alumni are expected to:
- Perform successfully in diverse professional roles in industry, research institutions, or academia;
- Apply integrated chemical engineering and intelligent engineering methods to address complex real-world problems;
