Sichuan Normal University(SICNU), as a provincial keyuniversity, is among the first to carry out the national “Basic Capacity Building Project in Colleges & Universities in Mid-western China”. It’s the first normal university to undertake the basic undergraduate normal educationin Sichuan Province. The establishment of SICNU (founded in 1946 in Shenyang, Liaoning Province in the northeast of China) was directly connected with Northeastern University (NEU), which moved to Santai County of Sichuan Province in the earlier days in the Anti-Japanese War. After the victory of the war, NEU moved back to Shenyang, but some of the faculties and students who chose to stay in Sichuan jointly established the Northern Sichuan Agricultural &Engineering College (NSAEC) at the former site of NEU. In 1949, with the incorporation of Xishan Academy, NSAEC was renamed as Northern SichuanUniversity (NSU), and then moved to Nanchong City of Sichuan Province after merging with Chinese Language& Literature College of Northern Sichuan in 1950. Two years later, with NSU as the main body and the emerging of Eastern Sichuan Education College(former Rural Construction College) and some specialties from Sichuan University (SU) and West China University, Sichuan Teachers College (STC) came into existence. STC moved to the current site in 1956 and was renamed as Sichuan Normal University (SICNU) in 1985, approved by the former State Education Commission of the PRC. As one of the first national master authorization units and among the 10th batch of doctor authorization units, SICNU has developed 11 discipline fields including Literature, Sciences, Engineering, Philosophy, Economics, Management, Law, History, Education, Art and Agriculture, with 2 centers for post-doctoral studies, 3 doctoral degreeauthorizationfirst-level disciplines, 26 doctoral degree authorized locations, 24 master’s degreeauthorizationfirst-level disciplines, 12 master’s professional degree authorization categories and 82 undergraduate programs. Up to now, SICNU has been developing into a comprehensive university with over 40,000undergraduates and 3,000 faculty members &research staffs in various fields. Since the university was founded, many renowned scholars, such as the Mohist Scholar Wu Feibai, Li Anzhai (one of the founders of sociology and folklore in China), Liu Shaoyu (one of the founders of educational psychology in China), condensed state physicist Zhao Minguang, topologyexpert Liu Wangjin and nonlinear analysisexpert Ding Xieping gathered here. SICNUhas been dedicated into cultivating talents. More than 300,000 graduated from SICNU, with Li Yanrong (academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering) and Tang Yong (academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences) as the representatives. Numerous high-level teachers who have contributed greatly to the basic education of our province also graduated from our university. SICNU is one of the university foreign exchange centers in Sichuan Province.Approved by the Ministry of Education, SICNU has gained the qualifications to recruit students from overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao and Taiwan Province, and to accept recommended students from Macao. SICNU has established extensive academic exchanges and personnel training relationships with 110 colleges, universities and educational research institutions in 25 countries and regions to train overseas students of all levels. SICNU has carried out joint training programs at various levels and in different countries. SICNU has worked with Yonsei University in Republic of Korea and Karachi University in Pakistan to establish two Confucius Institutes. SICNU has founded a Confucius Classroom with Cadet College Petaro in Pakistan. SICNU has also established a Japan Research Center, a Korean Research Center, a Sino-Russian Cultural Exchange Center, and a Sino-French Cultural Exchange Centerand a co-organized Chengdu Sejong Class with Yonsei University. Sichuan Normal University boasts its uniqueness among the provincial universities in Sichuan Province.In 2013, with the presence of Premier Li Keqiang, SICNU signed an agreement with Karachi University for the establishment of a Confucius Institute. Then the Confucius Institute at Yonsei University (2013) and the Confucius Classroom at Cadet College Petaro in Pakistan (2015) were successively established. Supported by the three Confucius Institutes (classrooms), Sichuan Normal University is committed to spread Chinese culture and strengthen Humanistic exchanges with countries and regions cross the globe, to tell Chinese stories and raise Chinese voices, and thereby to contribute the promotion of "one belt and one road" initiative and the Community of shared future for all mankind. Taking a strong foothold in Sichuan province, SICNU is in line with the new strategy of Sichuan Provincial People’s Government to seek sound governance and prosperity. In this new era, with the guidance of President Xi’s socialism with Chinese characteristics, all the SICNU faculties and students have carefully studied and performed the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Provincial Committee, dedicating themselves to the development of SICNU as the cradle of educators, the growth base for outstanding principals, the platform for the transformation of excellent educational and teaching achievements, as well as the high-end think tank of the national and provincial education. SICNU is also committed to playing the leading role of the regional teachers’ training and education so as to promote the local economic & social development, satisfy the significant national demand, shoulder the responsibility and mission ofinheriting and innovating Chinese civilization, and to continuously improve the ability to serve local economic & social development and basic education.
